A musical journey shaped through performance, education, and cultural exchange.

From early studies in China to training in the United States, Jinwei's work continues to connect diverse musical backgrounds through performance and collaboration.

He recently completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance at The Catholic University of America, where he was awarded the John Paul Music Scholarship, William Masselos Scholarship, and Mary F. Connor Scholarship. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned a Master of Music degree from the Mannes School of Music in New York as a Presidential Scholar and received his Bachelor’s degree from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China. His artistic background has been shaped through studies and collaborations across China and the United States, with a continuing focus on performance, education, and cultural exchange.

As a performer, Jinwei has appeared at venues and institutions including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Bulgarian Embassy, Georgetown University, and The Catholic University of America. His artistic activities have also included performances and collaborations with the Washington International Piano Series and The Bulgarian Music Society Concert Series, alongside appearances at concerts, festivals, and cultural exchange events in both China and the United States. In 2024, he performed at the Chinese Embassy Mid-Autumn Gala Concert in Washington, D.C. as a featured international student representative, and in 2025 he was invited to present a solo recital for the Chinese Embassy Music Salon series. During his time in New York, he was also invited to participate in the Mannes Sound Festival, where he performed Carl Ruggles’ modernist piano work Evocations: Four Chants for Piano, with the performance featured on the festival’s official platform. His artistic work and cultural initiatives have been featured in media including China Daily and The Washington Diplomat.

Alongside performing, Jinwei is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Washington International Young Artists Music Series (WIYAMS), a Washington-based initiative dedicated to supporting emerging musicians through performance, collaboration, and artistic exchange. Since its founding, WIYAMS has brought together young artists from leading conservatories and universities across the United States and internationally, and the 2026 season received more than 150 applications from young professional artists worldwide. As both performer and organizer, he has also appeared as a featured WIYAMS Artist in the series’ concerts and collaborative projects.

As an educator, Jinwei is the founder of Jinwei Piano Studio in the Washington metropolitan area, where his teaching combines technical development, artistic individuality, and long-term musical growth. His work with students emphasizes imagination, communication, and personal artistic identity alongside pianistic training. He is a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and has received recognition for both artistic and teaching achievements through festivals, competitions, and educational initiatives in China and the United States. His students have received awards in youth piano competitions and have been admitted to specialized music programs and conservatories.
